Amazon Tweaks Site for Better Navigation

16 09 2007

via Mashable! by Kristen Nicole on 9/6/07

Amazon.com has just tweaked its website, offering better navigation options for the site.

The biggest difference you’ll notice is the menus that pull up when you hover over certain menu items in the tool bar. The department menu that pulls up is probably the most helpful, as this acts as a grounding factor no matter how far you veer while browsing Amazon’s vast website. All of Amazon’s departments are accessible from this menu, which is on the left hand side of the page. The other hover menus you’ll notice are are the top of the page, which work for drop down menus when there’s an arrow icon, giving you a quick peek for the various options on this particular drop down box, as well as easier navigation for the site overall.

Other minor tweaks you’ll notice, aside from the changed color of the menu, is the consolidation of your bargain features under “Today’s Deals” as well as easier access to your saved items and cart lists. Considering the expanse of Amazon’s site, anything to improve navigation and save time is a welcome change. Uncluttr, TeleMoose and LazyLibrary are other simplified ways in which you can search for Amazon items.

Use of div to avoid to people to click and wait and enable to see the next step without clicking

16 09 2007

Div that appears on rollover are more and more used.

It helps the user to not get lost and forgot what he was looking for by clicking and going to another page then to click again to go back to the initial page.

The user wins time (because div are already loaded on the page) and the user is more satisfy.
Examples : the difference between istock and gettyimages:

- in ISTOCK.com, when we are on rollover on an image a div opens and we can see the image bigger

istock

- in GETTYIMAGES.com, we need to click on the small image to see the bigger image, then to wait that it uploads then go back to the previous page if we are looking for another image. We lost time.

They use the same process in AMAZONE or WORDPRESS, we can see the next step without clicking

A kind of scroll menu that can be use when there are few websites in 1

We can scroll to “another website menu”

The category could be “patient” “doctor” “pharmasist” etc… and a different menu for each category would appear by scrolling to the category we are interested in.
